The year is in full swing and as we are approaching the Easter Bank Holiday weekend we thought now is a great time to start planning a few DIY projects. In this article we take a look at some of the biggest DIY trends for 2023.
DIY Wall Art
One way to make sure you have a unique piece of art that isn’t going to feature in everyone else’s home this year, is to get creative and make your own. DIY wall art is one of the biggest trends for 2023. If you are wondering where to start, check out this blog by Country Living, they have got 34 DIY Wall Art Ideas for you to try! We really love the transient grid of clipboards because the items on each board are so easy to swap out, this will look stunning in a home office area. If that doesn’t float your boat check out the framed fabric, awesome if you want to tie in your wall art with other pieces in the room.
Limewash Paint
Limewash paint is very affordable and is much more eco-friendly than the run of the mill paint you see on the shelves of most DIY shops, with no harmful fumes or substances. The effect limewashing gives is akin to a suede look. This paint is a design feature all of its own. If you are considering using limewash paint it is worth while knowing that the paint has doesn’t contain plastic, so will soak into brick masonry, don’t panic, that is what it is supposed to do. It can be applied with a brush and as it is much thinner than the widely available mass produced paint. The paint should be applied thinly and spread as far as it will go without over working it. Get it right and your end result is simply stunning. For more great tips and advice visit the BAUWERK website to find out all about their colour limewash paint.
Sliding Barn Doors
Sliding barn doors are the epitome in rustic chic design. And after viewing the numerous style options available, we can see why this trend has become so popular. If you are a competent DIYer then you might fancy having a go at making your own sliding barn door. If you are thinking about it, take a look at this blog post by Sarah Nadarajah, she talks us through How to Create a Barn Door Using the Existing Door, now that is one clever lady – I think I had better just buy mine as I can almost guarantee, anything I work on would not look that good by the time I have finished with it!
Repaint, Re-stain or Wallpaper Furniture
Thanks to the upcycling trend we are seeing more and more solid but tired pieces of furniture being given a new lease of life with a bold new paint colour and stencil combo or a refresh with a re-stain. The next level in this sustainable design trend is the addition of statement wallpaper. Turn an ordinary Ikea bookcase into an absolutely stunning piece simply by adding a feature wallpaper to the back wall. This trend can look so effective, we have seen kitchen islands with one side of the base decorated with a bold print paper, Console table tops that have been given a new lease of life with a layer of artful wallpaper but I think by far and away our favourite transformation is seeing and old cabinet turned into a piece of furniture fit for centre stage.
